Discovery Channel...

We have a live discovery channel going on at our house daily.  Carter made an insect cage out of a large water container, and since then he and the other kids have filled it with 2 butterflies, and 4 grasshoppers.  Unfortunately, the butterflies didn't survive, and I have since banned them from catching them, but amazingly enough...the the "hoppers" have survived for quite a while...

that is...

until...

Carter's uncle found this and added it to the collection.  Carter has been charting his observations as if he were a scientist doing some major research.  The praying mantis has eaten a couple of the grasshoppers, but leaves the head and legs, at which point the grasshoppers become cannibals, and work on the rest.  It was weird that they were all living peacefully until the Mantis showed up and made everyone crazy!!  I guess it gives him plenty to document...!!

Well, Carter sure has a love for this stuff, and his favorite channel is the Discovery Channel...he could watch that for hours, and not get bored...I start hearing the narration, and find myself drifting off while he is riveted and focused...

That's my boy...

I'm still stuck on the grasshoppers' leftovers... gross.

That fascination is a catalyst for continuing his discovery of the complicated world around him. Go Carter!
