A Real Piece of Work...

So...many of you know me fairly well...some of you too well...but did you know that I won't be earning the "Mother of the Year" award this year...or in any year to follow I imagine??!!

It isn't that I have done something terribly wrong (I think) it's that for ONCE I actually did something...well, different with my kids.  I let them do a "project."  You see, this is what bothers me...we don't really do projects or crafts around here, unless you count coloring in their coloring books, and playing with
play-doh a serious effort on my part....

ANYWAYS...what it comes down to is that I feel like I am somewhat "lacking" in the mothering role sometimes, and just all too focused on the dictatorship role in the house....

 "Clean your Room..."
                                                                                        "Wash your Hands..."

"Take your bowl to the sink..."

                        "Don't sit on your Brother..."

etc....eTc....ETC

So, on one of these rainy days when the kids were inside all day, I decided to do a "project."  We have some big rolls of poster paper, so I rolled out three extra huge pieces, got out the paints, and told the kids to create masterpieces....whatever they wanted....I don't know that I want to even announce this on the public worldwide internet, but this is the FIRST TIME MY KIDS HAVE PAINTED WITH WATERCOLORS in our home....

AHHHHHHHHH!!!

I know...I told you...I have "issues...."

So here is what they created:

Carter's Masterpiece....

Oakley's Masterpiece...

Parker's Masterpiece...

I went out and got poster sized frames for them, so that I can see a visual reminder that projects are FUN, and that I CAN be one of "THOSE" moms...

Here is what I did with them...

No kidding! Way to go! If I can find a form, I'll nominate you! Don't underestimate the value of doing exactly what you are already doing so well. No one else knows what actually goes on in anyone else's home. . . you're a great little mommy, and the important things are all there in place. I'm glad you preserved the roject . . . it's proof! By the way, that's a mighty neat playroom. The kids must be all tucked in! Love you.

We don't do a whole lot around here in project form either; I don't know what to do with a 2 year old!

But what a great idea to hang them up. How beautiful.

Very cool....but please tell me you had to clean up the toys on the floor before you took the picture!!!! 'Cause otherwise I'm gonna feel bad that my house is NEVER that clean! ;D

That is totally cool! I really like it on the wall. At our house the art hangs on the back of doors, the fridge and sometimes it manifests itself directly on walls with permanent ink.

Life is good. Thanks for sharing it.

One more question... When do I finally get to be officially one of your family and friends? I mean, sisters counts as family, right? :)

Ahhh, does Oakley's say "I love you mom"? Those are awesome, I love how/where you displayed them! I totally understand how projects (especially playdough and paint) are a scary thing to tackle with kids, and the clean up can take longer than the project sometimes!

This looks great! And you know what, I'm sure you are a great mom! Not all moms are the same. Some of us just don't enjoy craft projects as much as others...

Just stopping by from SITS to wish you a wonderful Wednesday!

hi again...

I just have to let you know that I didn't redesign my blog at all.... I don't care to learn how to do it.. I commissioned Emma with IndieChick Design (http://www.indiechickdesigns.blogspot.com/). She's also offering a 15% discount all month. :)

I LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT, LOVE IT!!!! did you get that i love it?;-) my mom used to hang my art. she still has a few pieces up. it always made me feel so special. i want to be a project mom, but i'm working on the motivation to get it all out and clean it all up...maybe i should just worry about the getting it all out part and not the cleaning it all up part...

good job mom! what a neat idea! they look GREAT!! you know why I think you should earn a mother of the year award? because you have 3 kids and 1 on the way...and though I'm sure your life is as hecktic as mine (probably more) you seem to keep a cheery disposition...and a positive outlook on things. that right there is a real gift.
